This recent Rauzier hyperphoto is a kaleidoscopic image of the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. All works in the exhibition are C-Type rauzied, Diasec mounted on aluminum, the best possible conservation practice currently available.

The structure both recedes into an unending skyline and is reflected in the Chicago River. I hf when artists create something that hasn’t been seen before, especially when it is something as amazing as Rauzier’s hyperphotos.

It was formally the equivalent of the Foreign Office: Tapis Papillons 8 C-type print 66 x In a few of his images, he even incorporates himself, clad in all-black, hanging out in a dark corner or even in a more prominent spot, as you’ll see jt the images below. Using digital technology, he cuts, moves and constructs buildings, gardens, animals, and many other objects, carefully collected during long photographic sessions to inspire a new fantastic landscape, a capricious picture or a baroque masterpiece.


Most are made of hundreds, if not thousands of images, and incorporate a dream-like twist in each one. I imagine these beautiful statues, resuscitated by the restoration, being reborn and placed jd guardians on the stairs of the grand vestibule of the Chateau.

Babel Bruegel Paris 8 C-Print 58 x He rauxier to transform the world according to his dreams, wishes and anxieties, and to recreate the magic and secrecy of ancient legends and stories using 21st century media. Rauzier has also incorporated iconic architectural elements from the museum, including the museum’s main entry hall, the gothic screen from the center of the museum, and the Tiffany stained glass window from the American Wing.

In his photographs he seeks to offer razuier the plurality of the world; in this case by representing various Renaissance portraits of young women in both a recognizable and a digital manner, with the hexadecimal code acting as a veil.


It’s a nice idea, and looks great from a distance, but some of the compositing is terrible, especially as these are meant to be zoomed into. Using photoshop, he layers and manipulates the scene, building them up piece by piece with what looks like laborious pen-tooling and layer masking. I can spot some jagged edges here and there. Size variations may be possible if further works are available in the edition. A legacy of ancient civilizations and those to come; transmission of knowledge, culture, the arts, science; transmission of the word, the logos and the origins from one generation to the next.


I had the pleasure of seeing some of Rauzier’s work in person at a showing at the Annenberg Space For Photography in Los Angeles, CA, and it is nothing short of breathtaking.

Through repetition of the building Rauzier captures the overwhelming scale of Merchandise Mart. The depth and variety of his portfolio is breathtaking, especially given the labor-intensive nature of his work.

This library in the Chateau of Versailles now contains precious works of science and botany. Of course, none of his mastery of technology would be worthy unless it was combined with a true artistic vision. Using his backgrounds in the arts, he creates images that are surreal and otherworldly, yet lifelike and believable.
